About Me

My First Cake
My name is Lacey (or Lacey-Jake, according to my dad and grandfather).  I'm a full-time special education teacher, but I love making cakes in my spare time for family and friends.  A few years ago, I saw some fondant cakes and was in awe of how flawless they looked, so I decided to give it a try.  Luckily, Christmas was right around the corner, so I got to try my hand at making a poinsettia cake.  It didn't come out very well, but the technique wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, so I was motivated to keep trying.

Madeline's Baby Shower Cake
Since then, my cake-making skills have improved (thankfully!) and I have been posting many of my cakes on Facebook and Pinterest, which is also where I have found a lot of inspiration for my cakes.  Since I have received so much of my inspiration from cakes that I have seen online, I decided that I wanted to return the favor by creating tutorials for people who are interested in making similar cakes.  Hopefully someone out there will find my tutorials useful. :-)

My nieces and nephews (Grace-11, Caleb-9, Dan-8, Chloe-5, Lily-3, Madeline- 1) are my biggest inspiration.  They are always full of imagination and creativity, and I love making birthday cakes for them.  Since their interests are ever-changing, they're always challenging me to create something new... and they love helping me in the kitchen!

Dad's Father's Day Cake 2014
So anyway, this is it... my cake blog that I have told people that I was going to make for several months.  I will try to add new tutorials as often as I can, and I hope that you're able to find some helpful information here.  Feel free to ask questions, make comments or suggestions, or share your ideas.  I'm always looking for ways to improve! :-)

Update: I finally have a Facebook page!

    1. I wish that I had created a tutorial for it. Unfortunately, I made the Octonauts cake before I started taking pictures of the creation process and writing tutorials. I do have several photos of the cake from various angles that I could share, though. I will try to put together a partial tutorial this week with the pictures that I have, and if I ever have the opportunity to re-create the cake, then I will definitely make a complete tutorial.

    1. I haven't created one yet, but I just sifted through some old cake photos and found some that I took while I was making the Maleficent/Aurora cake. I'll try to put a quick tutorial together today. :-)
